In 2021, a group of members within Mizzou's American Society of Mechanical Engineers chapter selected to compete in the AIAA Design, Build, Fly Competition. With little to no experience in aircraft design, the team struggled and never ended up with an operational aircraft. However, the group of mechanical engineering students decided that the competition, while difficult, was extremely worthwhile and chose to found a new organization specifically for this purpose. The Mizzou AeroTigers was then born in the 2022-2023 academic year. Today, the Mizzou AeroTigers is a recognized student organization, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, and a recipient of the Organizational Resource Group’s “Best New Group of the Year” award. Entering our third year, we are focused on accelerating our competition success while expanding our educational impact on both our members and the greater community.
